Lagerstroemia Indica, This member of the Lythraceae is better known as crape myrtle or crepe myrtle. This deciduous shrub or tree growing 2-8m tall displays a rounded shape and a winding trunk with a creamily coloured bark. With its pink blossoms this slowly growing tree is of high ornamental value, attractive throughout the year. In spring it offers marvellous sprouts, in summer a spectacular blossoming, in autumn an intensely colourful foliage and in winter it highlights its bark. Frequently found in gardens and parks, it is also used along streets and avenues, but its effect is most spectacular in smaller gardens. It is recommended to keep it as a single speciemen in a garden or potted, always with as much sunlight as possible. It loves the heat, though it tolerates periods of cold as long as they do not last for too long. It requires a well-drained terrain, fresh and humid, never drenched or alkalic.
