Juglans Regia. Persian Walnut or Common Walnut.
Juglans Regia, Best known under the names of Persian walnut, English walnut or common walnut, this member of the Juglandaceaea has its origins in Persia and the Himalaya. A vigorous tree of about 25m in height, its trunk reaches diametres of up to 4m. Its crown is of spheric shape, ramified and extensive. Its is widely cultivated due to the commercial interest in its fruit, the walnut, which is widely consumed, either raw, cooked or baked. It is a dry fruit rich in protein and vitamins B and C. It is a tree sensitive to periods of frost, requiring moderate climates. It also requires a constant supply of water, thus when not cultivated on humid terrain needing additional watering.
