Carpinus Betulus Fastigiata, The common hornbeam or European hornbeam is native to western, central and southern Europe, Ukraine and Russia. It requires moderate climates to flourish fully, frequently encountered in degraded forests. Reaching 15-25m in height, this is a relatively small, deciduous tree with a winding trunk. Prefers shadowy settings and moderately moist and fertile soil. Resilient in the face of severe frost, is is best planted in semi-sunny placings and moderately watered. It is a species frequently used to form hedges.
