Eribotrya Japonica, the medlar tree is a species of the Rosaceae family, native to southeast China. Its edible fruit is the medlar. It is a tree that has been spreading into India, Pakistan, the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and Argentina. This extensive shrub or small, evergreen tree shows a rounded crown and a short trunk. It normally grows to 3-4 m, but it ocassionally reaches heights of up to 10m. Easily cultivated, it also is often chosen as an ornamental.
