Cydonia Oblonga / Cydonia Vulgaris, The quince is a member of the Rosaceae and is native to western Europe and the shores of the Caspian Sea. It is a small, deciduous tree of about 4-6m with a winding trunk and an even bark. Its fruit, the quince, is renowned for its health benefits. It is of high ornamental value when blossoming, best fitting in smaller gardens as it is easily trimmed and shaped. It requires a moderate or even cold climate, long winters and hot summers. It resists low temperatures and is often grown in closed valleys where sunlight is scarce. The quince is very resistant in the face of drought and demands moderate watering.
